Lochiel Brewing is a craft brewery in Mesa, Arizona, specializing in traditional Scottish, Irish and English-style beers. Founded by Ian Cameron, a ninth-generation brewer from the Clan Cameron lineage, the brewery draws heavily on family brewing traditions rather than focusing primarily on modern American beer trends. Lochiel operates a 10-barrel electric brewhouse and produces malt-forward beers using recipes connected to generations of the Cameron family.
The brewery’s signature Scotch Ale has especially deep roots. According to Lochiel Brewing, the recipe has been passed through the Cameron family for more than 450 years. The malt-focused beer is joined by selections such as Fusilier Lager, a pale lager made using the same base malt as the flagship Scotch Ale, and an Oatmeal Stout brewed with more than 100 pounds of oatmeal grain. You can learn more about the brewery and its beers on the official Lochiel Brewing website.
Lochiel’s approach gives Mesa beer drinkers an alternative to breweries centered heavily around American IPAs and hop-forward styles. The brewery says it adapts traditional Scottish brewing methods to its modern brewing system while maintaining its emphasis on clean, flavorful and malt-driven beer. The name Lochiel itself reflects the brewery’s Scottish heritage and refers to the chieftain branch of Clan Cameron.
